Alcedo is the smallest and one of the least active volcanoes in the Isla Isabela, the largest on the E Pacific Galapagos platform. Its only recorded eruption, in November 1954, produced olivine tholeiites and ferrobasalts together with sodic rhyolites. No intermediate rocks were found.
