Abstract
Surgical antibiotic prophylaxis is one of the methods that effectively decrease the rate of surgical site infections. The present study was a retrospective study that was conducted in a maternity and children's hospital in Arar, Saudi Arabia, for a period of 10 months and aimed to explore the timing of prophylactic administration of cefazolin to prevent infections after caesarian section surgeries. During the study period, more than 63% of the patients used cefazolin at an appropriate time. The rate of the appropriateness of using prophylactic antibiotics within 60 min prior to the incision for the lower segment caesarian section in the northern border region was good. Infection control doctors and obstetricians need to collaboratively implement the guidelines recommendations to decrease the unwarranted variation from evidence-based practices.
