Abstract
The Capparis spinosa L. is an important medicinal plant in the family Capparaceae. This study reported the plastid genome of C. spinosa to grasp a better comprehension on the molecular basis. The length of the genome is 157,728 bp. A typical quadripartite structure is present containing a pair of inverted repeats (IR) region (26,337 bp) which divided by a large single-copy (LSC) region of 86,732 bp and a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,322 bp. There are 116 out of 136 the total of plastid genome in the C. spinosa are located in the single copy regions, while the rest of 19 are located in the inverted repeats region. The plastome contained 80 protein coding genes, 31 tRNA genes and 4 rRNA genes. The analysis of repeats shows that the plastid genome includes all types of repeats with more frequent occurrences of palindromic. Also, this analysis indicates that the total number of simple sequence repeats (SSR) were 318 of which the majority are mononucleotides A/T which are located in the intergenic spacer. The results of plastid genome described in the current study provide valuable information for species identification and future genetic diversity and evolutionary studies within the Capparis genus in future.
