Abstract
A detailed evaluation of the performance of the commercially-available Mark II version of the popular Spinning Top Aerosol Generator (STAG) has been carried out. New features include a controllable satellite removal system, remote needle height adjustment, a new suspension system and a more compact body. These lead to a considerable improvement in the ability to generate monodisperse aerosols of water and DOP, with geometric standard deviations as low as 1.06, and less than 1.2 over a wide working range (droplet diameter 15-45 mu m for DOP). Aerosol yields are typically 40-60% for DOP and around 20% for water, and are a function of both aerosol stop distance and ambient air velocity.
