Abstract

The electronic structure of polyacetylene, PA, and poly( p-phenylene), PPP, and the copolymer poly( p-phenylene vinylene), PPV, has been studied using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, UPS. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with the results of model quantum chemical calculations based upon the Valence Effective Hamiltonian, or VEH, method.
