Abstract
Nanophotonic silver nanoparticles with different diameters have been synthesized through the use of ascorbic acid assisted colloidal approach. The X-ray diffraction measurement indicated that the formed nanoparticles exhibited cubic nanocrystalline structures. The images taken by the transmission electron microscopy showed that the formed silver nanocrystals exhibited monodispersed nanoparticles with diameters ranged from 3.7 nm to 9.6 nm. The high resolution TEM measurements revealed that the formed silver nanoparticles tend to grow in the < 111 > diffraction plane. The optical absorbance spectroscopy exhibited a sharp absorbance peaks along the wavelength range from 397 - 427 nm, which ascribed to the local plasma resonance effect. The increase of the diameter of the silver nanocrystals leads to a decrease of the resonance plasma frequency. A displacement of the PL spectra from 414 nm to 624 nm due to the increase of the size of silver nanocrystals was observed. The impact of light photons on the silver nanocrystals was examined. It showed that fabulous emitted colors were scattered from the surface of the silver nanocrystals. These auspicious characteristics may render the synthesized silver nanocrystals to be efficient nanophotonic crystals for the employment in the fields of transmitting antenna, waveguides, optical fillers, and remote sensing optical devices.
