Abstract
Al-10Ni-10Ce was rapidly solidified using the melt-spinning technique and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The influence of the cooling rate on the microstructure has been studied. The XRD analysis showed that the solid solubility of Ce in alpha-Al increased. The SEM results exhibit nanostructure Al4Ce and Al3Ni intermetallic globular-like particles embedded within the nanostructure alpha-Al. The SEM analysis confirmed the refinement effect of Ce and Ni for the microstructure of the Al matrix.
