Abstract
The magnetic and magneto-optic properties of facing Targets Sputtered (FTS) Dy sub(x)Nd sub(5)(Fe sub(75)Co sub(25)) sub(95-x) amorphous films are investigated. When x is over 12 at%, the easy magnetization axis is perpendicular to the film plane. The effects of various preparation conditions were also examined. Both 470 K substrate temperature and -110 V bias can enhance the uniaxial anisotropy of the films; substrate bias causes M sub(s) to decrease and H sub(c) to increase, substrate heating will have the opposite effects. These interesting results show that DyNdFeCo thin films have properties similar to both Dy-TM and Nd-TM thin films. Furthermore, it is shown that the Nd component has a similar contribution to the uniaxial anisotropy as the Dy component in DyNdFeCo thin films.
