Abstract
Recent studies have clearly defined the presence of monocytes/macrophages in the glomeruli of animals developing both anti-GBM nephritis and soluble immune complex nephritis. The authors have used in vitro cell culture models to examine the effects of monocyte/macrophage supernatant on the growth of mouse mesangial cells and of human endothelial cells in culture. These supernatants exerted marked cytoregulatory effects on the growth of these cells.
