Abstract
The diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) is complex and requires multidisciplinary approach. Identifying an underlying connective tissue disease (CTD) is associated with a better prognosis and should be routinely evaluated. Serological testing is an important tool in detecting patients with CTDs and differentiating them from patients with IIP. This article will highlight the importance of serological testing in patients with IIPs and the role of the rheumatologist in evaluating these patients.
