DNA samples from Arab individuals from the United Arab Emirates and the State of Kuwait have been analysed using the Affymetrix GeneChip (R) Mapping 250 K STY Array to identify SNPs that are polymorphic within Arab populations. The screening process has allowed hundreds of SNPs that are polymorphic to be identified. SNaPshot (TM) assays have been developed for selected SNPs to assess the allele frequencies in a larger population sample and ultimately to create a SNP multiplex. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.
