Abstract
The first and second dissociation constants of malonic and succinic acids have been determined by a precise emf method in ethylene glycol-water media and at different temperatures (25-55 degrees C). The thermodynamic properties (Delta G degrees, Delta H degrees and Delta S degrees) for the first and second dissociation reactions of these two acids were computed, analyzed and discussed in terms of solute-solvent interactions. Delta H degrees-Delta S degrees, Delta S degrees-Delta G degrees and Delta G degrees-Delta H degrees correlations among different solvent media were examined. The pK value has been correlated with the dielectric constant of the medium according to Born equation.
