Abstract
A new marine fungal species, Torpedospora yanbuensis, is described from decaying mangrove wood collected in Saudi Arabia based on morphology and molecular phylogenetics of the combined nuclear SSU and LSU rDNA. The new species is characterized by apricot-colored ascomatal venter; hyaline, long, periphysate neck; deciduous outer peridial layer; persistent asci that are thick-walled with an apical thickening plate and 1 to 3-septate ascospores with deciduous polar appendages that extend in water to form tubular and gelatinous irregular-shaped structures.
