Abstract
Phytochemical investigation of Gladiolus atroviolaceus from Jordanian origin resulted in the identification of nine compounds, two of which were reported for the first time in nature. The new compounds included gladioloic acids A and B (3 and 4, respectively). The other known compounds were identified as vanillic acid (1), emodin (2), stigmasterol glucoside (5), kampferol-3-O-rhamnoside (6), kampferol-3 -O-beta-glucopyranoside (7), quercetin-3-O-rhanmnoside (8) and adenosine (9). These compounds are all reported here for the first time from the plant. Structures of all isolated compounds were elucidated by different spectroscopic and spectrometric methods, including NMR (1D and 2D), UV, IR and HRESIMS.
