Abstract

Ten of thirty burned patients tested by virus isolation and weekly serology showed evidence of active virus infection caused by Herpesvirus simplex, Herpesvirus varicellae, cytomegalovirus and vaccinia. The cytomegalovirus and most of the H. simplex infections were revealed only by laboratory investigation. The viral infections occurred most frequently in the more severely burned patients.
