Abstract
Solar energy from photovoltaic (PV) is among the fastest developing renewable energy systems world-wide. The use of grid-connected distributed PV systems have become globally a significant need. However, these systems have shown some adverse effects related to power quality and stability. This paper proposes a shunt active power filtering technique based on the instantaneous reactive power theory to reduce the problems related to the issue of power quality and stability. The system under analysis is a distribution network grid integrating solar PV generation system. The proposed control system using STATCOM is designed to improve the power quality and stability of the system. The simulation in this paper uses the MATLAB/Simulink software to introduce the STATCOM operation steps, also to show the effectiveness of the control technique.
